Janet Da Costa and Don Cummer

We first approached David Generali in the spring of 2005 to manage the renovation of our home in Leaside. We had ongoing discussions with David and our architect through the winter months to obtain all necessary permits. The most important issues for us were quality of work and timing. On both fronts, David exceeded our expectations. David provided a detailed timeline for each phase of the project and meticulously geared the dates to our children’s school schedule. He completed our project in the timeframe promised (unheard of in our neighborhood). While we are delighted with the result, many others have complimented the phenomenal job David did. The structure and mechanicals have been completed with diligence; the finishes are top notch. We were impressed with David’s commitment to doing the best job possible.

On a more personal level, we found David to be honest, personable, thorough and creative. He approached the smallest tasks with energy and detail. David has a huge bank of knowledge and went to great lengths to explain each and every decision being made. He also had a very “can do” philosophy. We are reasonably creative people and David not only helped us realize our more ambitious ideas, he also enhanced them.

From the start date onward, there was someone onsite everyday. If we were behind schedule, David and his team would work weekends (at David’s initiative). David was also very accessible. The few times we did not reach him directly, we would receive a return call right away. We were apprised of any decisions we would have to make within a reasonable time frame so that we could confer and make an informed decision.

Crises were dealt with swiftly and confidently. David always made our wishes a priority. He listened carefully and did not dismiss or discourage any of our ideas no matter how ambitious. This was evident in one of our first major decisions. We were choosing windows and liked a particular style of leaded glass. The salesperson was very dismissive and stated that the doors and windows would not align and was ready to move forward. David quickly intervened drew a sketch and showed how they could be incorporated. In addition, he suggested higher doors, which eliminated the need for a transom, created a beautiful and more practical aesthetic and resulted in a cost savings of more than $5000.00. This was one of many great decisions that went into our home.

David was extremely conscientious about the job site and our neighbors. They all raved about David himself and his workers. Each and every one of his regular team and specific trades were respectful, polite and friendly.

While undergoing a renovation has its challenges, we found it for the most part enjoyable under David’s excellent management. In a day and age when the building industry is under scrutiny for the rampant victimization of unsuspecting consumers, David stands out for his integrity, professionalism and high standards.

Sincerely,

Janet Da Costa and Don Cummer
